Prescription Drug Crimes

Utah Prescription Drug Crime Defense Lawyer

The state of Utah prosecutes people charged with prescription drug offenses aggressively. For example, you can be charged with a crime if you carry a prescription medication in any container other than the original container — even if the medication was prescribed for you.

Many people charged with prescription drug crimes are professionals who have never been arrested before. They are often people whom you would never suspect had a drug problem.

I am Steven M. DuBreuil, a Salt Lake City criminal defense attorney who represents clients charged with prescription drug crimes, including those involving OxyContin, Oxycodone, Vicodin, Xanax, Adderall and other prescription drugs. Please contact my law office if you have been accused of:

  • Fraudulently obtaining a prescription
  • Doctor shopping
  • Forging or altering a prescription
  • Unlawful possession or distribution of prescription drugs
  • Writing fraudulent prescriptions

In my experience, most people charged with prescription drug crimes were prescribed a pain killer for a legitimate medical reason, like chronic back pain. Some became addicted to drugs such as OxyContin, Oxycodone or Vicodin. I have great compassion for people who suffer from addiction, and these are powerfully addictive drugs.

A Proactive Approach

I will work to get my clients into a drug treatment program voluntarily, before they are ordered to do so. Showing the prosecution that you are taking responsibility for your actions and trying to address the problem can be have positive results.

In one case, I represented a young woman who had been charged with six felonies. If convicted, she could have served up to 30 years in prison. She voluntarily entered a treatment program. This helped me get the charges significantly reduced to a misdemeanor. She did not go to jail.

It is important to discuss the specifics of your case with a lawyer you can trust. To arrange a free, one-hour consultation, please contact me by e-mail or call 801-326-3695.
