Domestic violence is a real issue in our society. In its honorable efforts to protect true victims of domestic violence and spousal abuse, the state of Utah has created the opportunity for innocent people to suffer serious and permanent negative consequences.

Know What You Are Up Against
With a domestic violence charge on your record, you may find it difficult to get a job or a place to live. You will not be able to own a gun, and you may not be treated equally in child custody or visitation issues. You will most likely face harsher consequences for any subsequent criminal violation. Consequences for additional domestic violence convictions will be far worse.
I'm a lawyer who likes to address the whole issue, not just the immediate problem. I will encourage my clients to get the help they need to address the issues that may have contributed to the domestic violence charge. That may include counseling, anger management therapy or treatment for alcohol or drug abuse.
Depending on your circumstances, I may be able to work out an agreement that could avoid the need to go to trial. However, I always prepare cases as if they will be tried in court.
