Utah DUI Laws: Ignition Interlock Restrictions
The prospect of having to live for years with an ignition interlock device installed in your car is a compelling reason to hire a lawyer who can fight your DUI charges.
I am Steven M. DuBreuil, a Salt Lake City criminal defense attorney who will fight hard to help my clients avoid the expense, the burden and the stigma associated with an ignition interlock device.
- The expense: If you are convicted of certain DUI offenses, you will be compelled to install an ignition interlock device on your vehicle at your own expense. Installation of ignition interlock devices ranges from $1,500 to $2,500. You must pay to have devices installed in all vehicles registered in your name.
- The long-term burden: You have to blow into the ignition interlock device every time you want to start your car. Even with the car already running if you have been driving for a certain period of time, you may have to blow into the device again in order to continue driving.
- The stigma: Imagine picking up a date, a business associate or the carpool kids with an ignition interlock device installed in your vehicle. Imagine how other family members who may need to drive the car will feel about the stigma it casts on them.
Living without an ignition interlock device is a goal worth fighting for. Let me fight for you. To arrange a free, one-hour consultation about your DUI case, please contact my office by e-mail or call 801-326-3695.
